Today we'll pick you up from your hotel and drive toward the Larco Museum to begin your exploration of Peru's rich historical layers. This museum, housed in an 18th-century colonial building, presents an ideal starting point to understand Peru's ancient past. The museum exhibits a large collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts including pottery, gold, silver, and textiles that show the complexity and timeline of civilizations that developed in this region. During your visit, you'll learn that the Inca Empire, which most visitors associate with Peru, represents just a small portion of the area's history, lasting only about 150 years. In contrast, the first civilizations in this region date back to approximately 3,500 BC, revealing a much longer and richer cultural history than many expect.
After your time at the museum, we'll head to Lima's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore its colonial architecture. Our visit includes Casa Aliaga, the oldest continuously inhabited private residence in the Americas. This house has remained in the same family since Francisco Pizarro granted the land in the 16th century. Walking through its rooms shows how colonial life unfolded in Lima and how architectural styles changed over generations.
From Casa Aliaga, we'll walk through the historic streets to visit the main square and surrounding area. Here you'll see a mix of architectural styles that reflect different periods of Peruvian history. We'll stop at a local spot near the main square where you can try traditional Peruvian treats. There are both sweet and salty options available, and you can have a couple of them as a bit of a light lunch before returning back to the hotel.
Later this afternoon, at around 4 to 4:30 p.m., we'll head to the seaside for a private gourmet food experience. Our evening will kick off with a beachfront cocktail demo at sunset, where we'll get the chance to participate in a cocktail-making class and learn about Peru's iconic Pisco Sour. Afterward, we'll indulge in a culinary adventure at the Amaz restaurant, savoring the flavors of local delicacies such as ceviche. The experience continues with a visit to the Huaca Pucllana restaurant, where we'll enjoy a variety of Peruvian dishes with views of pre-Incan ruins. To conclude our day, we'll take a nighttime stroll through the Barranco neighborhood, where we'll embark on a walking food tour and end the evening with dessert.
