On arrival, you'll be welcomed by community members who are eager to share their traditional weaving knowledge, a craft that has deep roots in the Andes. To star, you'll join them to collect flowers and leaves that serve as natural dyes for textiles. These plants form the foundation of their traditional coloring process that has been used for centuries.
You'll then observe and participate in the weaving process. This begins with the shearing of alpaca wool, followed by spinning the fibers and preparing them into skeins. Next, you'll see how the natural dyes are applied to the wool and how the colors are set permanently into the fibers. The process concludes with hand weaving on traditional looms.
The patterns used in these textiles carry important symbolic meaning for the Amaru community members.
