Chile Tours Santiago and Maipo Valley

The cosmopolitan capital of Chile

Santiago is the capital of Chile as well as its cultural hub with the largest number of museums and theatres being found here on top of events being organised regularly. There are always things to do in Santiago. With its ancient architecture left over from a bygone era to the newly constructed shiny buildings, Santiago is a melting pot of both these sides.

During the day head to the Maipo Valley and its famous vineyards to learn more about the wines that have made their name across the world. In the evening make the most of Santiago's exuberant nightlife and party till the sun comes up in the Bellavista neighbourhood.

  • Maipo Valley

    An amalgamation of experiences

Santiago is full of historical buildings that have been left over from the colonial era. It is well worth taking the time to visit these places such as the Cathedral and the Palacio de la Monedad for their stunning architecture. If there is one museum that travellers must visit while here it is the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino. Some of the most impressive artefacts are gathered and held within these walls, from sculptures to jewellery and paintings it is a true collection of the best art found in Chile.

For the wine enthusiasts out there, just south of Santiago you will find the Maipo Valley, home of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Also known as the “Bordeaux of South America”, the Maipo Valley produces some of the best wines in the world. The vines found here were brought from France in the 1800s by rich merchants who used to holiday there and come back home with these plants.

    Our favourite Experiences

    • San Cristobal Hill

360 of the Capital of Chile in San Cristobal Hill

If you are looking to escape the concrete buildings of Santiago head to San Cristobal Hill. Located just over 300m over the city, it is but a short hike to the top where the view is truly breathtaking. At the peak of the hill you’ll also find a statue of the Virgin Mary that measures 22m in height and watches over the city.

    • Bellavista

Local markets and wares in Bellavista

Bario Bellavista is known as the bohemian neighbourhood in Santiago with a large number of bars, clubs and restaurants that stay open late into the night. Panel Neruda famously had a house here, La Chascona, alongside other artists and intellectuals. On weekends you will find here a local crafts market that specialises in lapis lazuli and other semi precious stones that can be found in Chile.

    • Maipo Canyon

Take a breath of fresh air in Maipo Canyon

Cajon del Maipo is a canyon and reserve located just south of Santiago that is popular for both high adrenaline activities as well as wildlife spotting. The reserve is especially known for its bird life and is home to the eponymous Andean Condor. For those looking for more intense activities, travellers can experience rafting, canyoning and even bungee jumping in the reserve. If heart racing activities are not for you, you can also try your hand at more low-key activities such as fishing and horseback riding.

    • Vitacura

Do some Shopping in Las Condes and VItacura

Las Condes and VItacura are known as the affluent and financial area of Santiago with tall skyscrapers that dot their skyline. For visitors who enjoy high end gastronomy this is the place to go to as most of the high end restaurants are located here. It is also a great place for those who enjoy shopping as one of the largest malls is found here alongside some chic boutiques.
