Safaris, hiking, birding and more!
With its extensive plains, wetlands, and rivers, Los Llanos is the perfect land for a safari to spot spectacled caimans, ibis, tortoises, rattlesnakes, and armadillos, to name but a few.
Los Llanos is also home to Caño Cristales, a river that runs with shades of red, blue, yellow, orange and green during certain months of the year in a vibrant natural display that happens nowhere else on Earth.
During the wet season, from May to October, Los Llanos becomes an exciting destination for birders, as some areas are flooded up to 1 meter, transforming the grasslands into temporary wetlands attracting more than 70 species of water birds.
Los llanos are the home of the llaneros, who are the Colombian cowboys. Therefore, no trip to this Colombia region is complete without heading out on horseback, sombrero on your head, corralling cattle with some llaneros and staying in one of the traditional haciendas.
