Lying between the Strait of Magellan (north) and Beagle Channel (south), Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago consisting of the main island, Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and a group of smaller Islands. The main island is divided by the Andes Mountains into two regions: The northern region is made of low plains and hilly valleys, while the Southern part is a mountainous area with snow-capped peaks, forests and lakes.

Overlooking the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia is one of the most important towns in the area and the main port used for Antarctic expeditions and Atlantic Cruises.

An incredible mix of nature and history

There is much to do in Tierra del Fuego: hiking, sailing, kayaking and scuba diving are but a few of the activities on offer here. From Ushuaia, travellers can continue their adventures towards the Beagle Channel to see marine life or towards the Darwin Cordillera, a hiker's paradise.

Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, only a few west kilometres from Usuaia, is ideal for wildlife tours. Birdlife is prolific here, especially along the coastal zone. Martillo Island, a short boat ride away, is home to a colony of penguins and a large variety of birds such as cormorants, condors, petrels and gulls.

With rich history and culture, Ushuaia is full of exciting things to do like visiting the “Museum at the End of the World” or the Maritime Museum in an old prison. Its local cuisine, with abundant fresh-caught seafood, is also an unmissable holiday experience in the Patagonian region.

Explore Tierra del Fuego National Park

Tierra del Fuego National Park is Argentina's first National Park. It stretches out over 630 square metres. The park offers many hiking opportunities, with trails clearly indicated on maps and along the terrain. The Beaver Trail weaves across 400m of beech where beavers have chewed through surrounding wood to create dams and ponds. The more renowned of hikes is the Glacier Martial that takes up to two hours to climb through. There is a lift that will take you halfway up.

For wildlife enthusiasts, bird species are the most present here, with the Black Chested Buzzard and the Magellanic woodpecker coming out on top.
Take a Train To the end of the world

The 'End of the World Train' was once used as a convicted train that used to carry timber that the prisoners would cut from the surrounding forest to take back to Ushuaia to help build houses and commerce. The train has since been repurposed and now serves as a once in a lifetime experience.

Travellers are taken through a Tierra del Fuego National Park journey stopping at some of the most iconic sights such as the Macarena Waterfall, the Sampaio mountain, and the Green lagoon.
